Teach Using Canvas
We have an entire section of the IFD website dedicated to supporting you in teaching using Canvas, Vanguard’s Learning Management System (LMS).
This is the system you will use to communicate assignments to students, provide feedback and grades on individual assignments (final grades do not automatically transfer over from Canvas to to the official grade record in Colleague, kept by the registrar), send messages, and more. Canvas access is granted by the Registrar and IT Department once your classes have been assigned by your Department Chair.
You can log into Canvas Learning Management System using the VU login credentials given to you upon hiring. Each semester, as you are contracted to teach your courses, a blank course shell is created for all courses. This is the course shell that students will be registered into and you can import content from a prior semester and have the dates adjust for the new semester for assignments and other date-related info.
View Canvas Basics for how to get started, guides, FAQs, etc.
Whenever you are logged in to Vanguard’s Canvas site, you have access to 24/7 Canvas help desk support (chat and phone) through the ‘Help’ icon on the Canvas homepage.
If you need further help beyond the 24/7 Canvas help desk, you can contact IT/Jim Evans at 714-619-6508. He can provide face-to-face or phone coaching.
Any further questions, please contact your Department Chairs.
